- California Academy of Science
The California Academy of Sciences consists of a Natural History Museum, Planetarium and Aquarium all in one location. Founded
in 1853 as the first scientific institution in the West, the California Academy of Science’s mission is to explore and explain the
natural world. The collections provide essential tools for comparative studies in biodiversity, and are ranked among the world's
largest. The Academy provides scientific knowledge and expertise to visiting scientists, educators, students, parents, conservation
organizations, the media and the general public.

Discovery.com is a guide and home base for Web adventures.
- The Exploratorium
Housed within the walls of San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts, the Exploratorium is a
collage of over 650 science, art, and human perception exhibits. The Exploratorium is a leader in the
movement to promote the museum as an educational center.
- Franklin Institute Science Museum
The Institute works toward the public understanding of science and the promotion of science education and
achievement, and to perpetuate the legacy of Benjamin Franklin.
- The Gemini Observatory
The Gemini project is a multi-national effort to build twin 8.1-meter astronomical telescopes utilizing
new technology to produce some of the sharpest views of the universe ever. One
telescope will be located atop Hawaii's Mauna Kea and the other atop Chile's
Cerro Pachón—together they will provide complete unobstructed coverage of both
the Northern and Southern skies.
- Genentech: Access Excellence
Access Excellence is a national educational program that provides high school biology and life science
teachers access to their colleagues, scientists, and critical sources of new
scientific information. The program was originally developed by Genentech Inc.,
a biotechnology company. In 1999, the website was donated to the National Health Museum, a non-profit organization
founded by a former US Surgeon General as a national center for health education.
Access Excellence will form the core of the educational component of the
National Health Museum Website.
- The Globe Program
Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) is a worldwide
network of students, teachers, and scientists working together to study and
understand the global environment. Students and teachers from over 10,000
schools in more than 95 countries are working with research scientists to learn
more about our planet. Scientists use GLOBE data in their research and provide
feedback to the students to enrich their science education.
- Global Warming
This web site is based on the traveling exhibition, Global Warming: Understanding
the Forecast. Developed jointly by the American Museum of Natural History and the
Environmental Defense Fund, the exhibition includes dozens of hands-on
exhibits, models, interactive computer simulations, and video displays that
show how greenhouse gases warm the earth, how energy use could affect global
warming, and what life would be like in a warmer world if global average
temperatures rise 2° to 6° F., as currently predicted.
- Jason Project
After discovering the wreck of the RMS Titanic, world-famous explorer and
oceanographer Dr. Robert Ballard received letters from students around the
world who wanted to go with him on his next expedition. Dr. Ballard founded the
JASON Project to bring the thrill of discovery to millions of students
worldwide.
- Web-Based Integrated Science Environment (WISE)
WISE is a simple yet powerful learning environment where students examine real-world
evidence and analyze current scientific controversies. Curriculum projects are
designed to meet standards and complement current science curricula for grade
5-12 students.
- Lawrence Hall of Science
Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS) is the public science museum and research center for K-12 education at
the University of California, Berkeley. LHS offers hands-on science exhibits, discovery laboratories, computer
labs, planetarium shows, after-school classes and summer camps, family
workshops, special events, school programs and teacher education.

The Particle Adventure is an award-winning site that allows one to explore the

- Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS)
SEDS is an independent, student‑based organization which promotes the exploration and development of
space. SEDS pursues this mission by educating people about the benefits of
space, by supporting a network of interested students, by providing an
opportunity for members to develop their leadership skills, and inspiring
people through our involvement in space‑related projects.
- St.Louis Children's Aquarium Web
This dramatic site shows live sharks swimming, monkey antics, and explains several hands‑on activities
to do in the home or classroom. Links to the aquarium's international programs will bring you all over the world to
learn more about ecosystems and cultures.
- The Tree of Life (Phylogeny)
The Tree of Life is a collection of over 1700 World Wide Web pages containing
information about the diversity of life. These pages are housed on 20 computers
in four countries, and are authored by biologists from around the world. Each
page contains information about one group of organisms. The pages are linked
one to another in the form of the evolutionary tree of organisms, with the
pages branching off from a group's page being about subgroups.
